What Would You Do If You Didn’t Have To Work To Get Paid?

I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

How would you spend your time if you didn’t have to work for a living?

Would you sleep in till way past noon grab a bag of Cheetos and switch on the TV or computer?

Would you cultivate some altruism and take a walk with the elderly from a nearby retirement home?

Read a book or two a week? Keep bumblebees, beetles, and butterflies to help them (and us) survive.

Start your mornings with painting, or learn to cultivate bonsai like a Japanese zen master? Become a yoga teacher or professional pet sitter?

Would you invest sweat and blood to become a master in martial arts?

Take a job with the least possible amount of responsibility, just for the fun of it?

Dedicate a few hours a day to social activism? Help fight Monsanto?

Protest the outrageous policital imprisonment of  journalist and former Anonymous member Barrett Brown and similar freedom fighters?

Take up gardening and contribute to public nutrition interest by growing forgotten heirloom vegetables and fruits?

Try new things, just for the sake of experiencing new highs and lows?

Would you take cooking classes, herd goats, raise chickens, start coding, make art, spray graffiti, go out and meet new people, visit children in prison, bake cookies, get bored to death, go crazy?

With the basic income experiment introduced in various countries such as Finland, Germany, Netherlands, and India to name a few, this question becomes more legit every day.

Aside from the availability of an universal, unconditional income for everyone, asking yourself what you really want to do matters. As becomes clear in this short yet ultimately inspiring video.

What if money was no object by Alan Watts

Inspired by the possibility of living a life true to your own needs and wants?

You don’t have to wait till the basic income is implemented in your area. You can start with building a location independent (passive) income right now.

What would you do if you didn’t have to work?

Does Alan Watts make sense? Or isn’t it that simple? Shout out below.

  • I would herd goats, raise chickens, garden the snot out of everything, own beehives, raise rabbits, breed dogs and horses, paint all the time, and forage wild foods and make my own vinegars and jams and jellies… *sigh*

    • Sounds great Megan. Comes pretty close to my ideal pastime. I would also start a, with salvaged materials built (earthship-like) community of likeminded folks who are into going back to archaic values and taking a few steps back from consumer-culture.

  • I found myself getting pretty desperate to get back to work. Although I liked to do all these things, I realized that what I really wanted to do was to create. Create something that wasn’t in this world before. Or create wealth. Or create knowledge. Create something to be remembered for.

  • I’m trying to look for freelance or part-time online work mainly through freelance sites How do I get paid for the freelance work? Do they give through checks usually? Or something else
